Stringing
Stringing Facts: Each plant must be tied from its base to a guide wire approximately 6 feet from the ground.
Major Components:
- Workers bend to the ground to start the stringing, wrap the plant a few times and tie off the string on the wire. Typically string for 10 hours at a time.
- Temperatures under the nets can reach 110 degrees.
- Later in the season, the flower must be cut off from the top of a growing plant, which is called “topping”.
- Workers are at risk for repetitive motion disorders from maintaining stooped postures for long periods, as well as reaching.
- Moderate to severe trunk flexion occurs while priming, stringing and hanging shade tobacco.
